I wouldn't want to force communism on people. I think human relationships should be voluntary and have the approval of all parties. I think that communism will only really have a chance of success when people start growing up, and look beyond the standards of materialism as a measure of worth and success. I know that people are too engrained in their ways, and that the "system" is too firmly entrenched for their to be any hope of a functional communist society existing in my lifetime, or probably many lifetimes to come.My definition of consumerism is an overall decrease in the quality of goods as the price increases. My empirical observations of this phenomenon are primarily fast food places. As a lifestyle, my definition of consumerism is the disposability of products begins to become the underlying mentality with human relationships. It's the idea that everyone has their price, can be bought or can be replaced when they are no longer fulfilling a specific need to us. It's treating human beings as commodities rather than as an individual with genuine worth. "Generation X" (at least in my experience) especially lives by this model. Great ideas like 'loyalty' and 'charity' no longer have any real meaning.
