Are there any good things about animal testing?

I've been researching animal testing and laboratories and all that I can find is terrible things about it. Is there anything good about animal testing? Are there any groups that actually test their animals according to the Animal Welfare Act and other Requirements similar to that? What medical breakthoughs (if any) have been found due to animal testing? What percentage of laboritories treat the animals fairly (clean their cages, put them in approriate sized cages, etc.)?
