: Lark, sorry if I'm agitating you; I am trying to be as non-confrontational as possible on this issue, since I know you feel somewhat beleaguered.

I appreciate it, even if it doesnt appear that way.

: Do you have any evidence for it 'not being natural'?

I dont because I'm not a scientist and I'm not keen on checking out the evidence that might exist because it may just be from highly homophobic or conservative sources, myself being neither, call it instinct or opinion, it's my line of thinking, I'm going to persecute no one so it should be legitimate enough.

: But they don't. I've never met anyone, (heterosexual or homosexual) who 'centred everything in their life around sex'. It's a major drive, but it doesn't feed or clothe you...

Well all I can say is that in the university all the gays I've seen you would no instantly are gays because they subscribe to every stereotype in the book. It would appear sex is everything to them, perhaps in ways I'm the same, if you have a cause you have to be careful not to make it a sore thumbs issue that is going to cause serious aggorvation.

Incidentally are there any heterosexual societies organising anyway?

: : Now we did get side tracked because I had commited the sin of holding unpopular opinions and thinking differently and was therefore a homophobic gay basher, which isnt the case.

: Have I ever said this, Lark? - I have tried to be as reasonable as is possible in debating this with you...

No but SDF, who I consider a comrade in other matters, and Barry Stroller, who I dont, are very happy to say your homophobic you are!!

: Keeping such behaviour out of sight is probably a good idea though; as long as it is applied to all sexual behaviour.

Of course, although to my mind it is more common amongst homosexuals, it is the result of their history but when, if no one seeks to take an unpopular position like mine, will the live post-history?

: All that I'm saying is that the same thing should be allowed of homosexuals; no more, no less.

I understand and agree.

: As Floyd says, it might well disappear past a critical point, when gays are accepted and empowered as such; when they don't have to hide for fear of assault.

I think it is now impeding their cause.

: : Well I'm trying to say that I dont accept the 'correct' or rather popular wisdom in these things, I dont think your association of me with people is a good thing, I dont want to stamp anything or anyone out after all, I just think there is a lacking of sound balance in this field of debate.

: And this is where you differ from Floyd, Barry, NJ and myself; you perceive the balance as tilted towards gays where we see it tilted the other way.

No they are definitely oppressed but I would appreciate more social rules of engagement, I know that's not always possible but would you want an advocate of black power to adopt an all whites are evil approach?

: :I dont think so, the media, parentage, society, religion etc. all play a significant role in determining such things, as the homosexuals realise and heterosexuals seem not to.

: As I said, primates are generally bisexual; pygmy chimpanzees especially so; however, same-sex/different-sex responses can be 'switched off' by environment and upbringing.

I disagree there mate.

: If you walked down the street hand-in-hand with another man in Ireland, you'd probably get aggro because people would assume that you were gay.

Oh yeah definitely, one of the things that pisses me off about the current situation with sexuality and it's prevailent status amongst everyone is that if you express affection towards either a man or a women they may get the impression you've a one track mind, laddism is in certain ways a means of expressing solidarity or affection while avoiding such impressions.

: If you did the same in India, no-one would assume anything of the sort; it's not that India is more homosexual; they just don't have the block on male-male touching that Ireland does.

Oh, I dont know, I've a fair few bouts of fist fighting, even a few where they two guys involved have been of good will towards each other afterwards, it's a bit rare though.

: Being proud of who you are is good - as long as you don't express it by oppressing those who are different.

Even if your pride is very anti-social or intimidating? The Dutch when I was in Spain last where proud of walking four or five abrest and singing songs in dutch, now are they just having a time of it or trying to mark out an unofficial territorial matter between the dutch and irish sectors?

: : I'd say that too.

: Great!

: Would you also accept it if they decided they were gay? - I certainly hope so.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be very difficult, I'd try and persuade them they where making the wrong choice you understand but at the end of the day I have to respect the soverignity of the individual.
