: has any-one any light to shed on this matter??????

Qx: It's basically the cornerstone of an indoctrination system that has been around as long as the USA has existd but really took substantive form at the end of WWI with the "Red Scare" which was a predecessor to the McCarthy witch hunts. The prime targets were anarchists and unions and these elements had to be countered with a massive public reltions campaign designed to convince the Ameerican public that people who were involved in labor, women's rights and civil rights struggles were anti-American.

I've touched on it here and it's worth bearing in mind that when you do read the rants of many of these pro-capitalists that what your hearing and reading is the end result of this Americanization campaign.

By grafting patriotism with capitalism it's been possible to perpetuate a political structure that is heavily dependent on corporate support. This allows for the US population to view the narrow ideological climate in the US as "normal". What most Americns don't know is that there was once a vibrant agrarian reform movement right in the center of the country and Oklahoma was actually a socialist stronghold. Even religious fundamentalists such as William Jennings Bryan had a monetary theory but nowadays what you got is mindless drivel.

It's really pretty sad and only by the efforts of few can any effort start to reverse this trend. One of the first things to do is to try to collect whatever evidence is left of this era. Keep in mind that black people weren't the only victims. It didn't just happen in the South. It happened everywhere and it was directed and encouraged by big capital in order to keep workers in line. The IWW was one of the main targets and since then America has never been the same. In order to break the spell a legitimation crisis has to be triggered off and that begins with education.

You hear about 'constitutional rights,' 'free speech,' and the 'free press.' Every time I hear these words I say to myself, 'That
man is a Red....' You never hear a real American talk like that. --Mayor Frank Hague, Jersey City
