SHAUN: Can you give us some examples of why you think public education isn't working?DADDIO: Sure. You can start with my ealier post in this room titled "A Race of Degenerate Morons….". Its easy to verify this info right here on the net. If you’d like, I could float you some links, but I would highly recommend that you take a little time and do some surfing on this subject yourself. You’ll find a parent driven revolution underway that’s fueled by a fundamental distrust of the public school system. The home school industry is booming and the phonics movement has parents asking the public schools some pretty embarrassing questions. I’d highly recommend a book called "Why Johnny Can’t Read" and its sequel "Why Johnny Still Can’t Read" by Fletcher.
Be clear on this: Public education is working GREAT. Its designed to produce a lot of simple minded worker bee consumers that derive their self-esteem only from having more toys than their next door neighbor, and its accomplishing this tremendously well. Just take a look around you. Become an "observer". You’ll find what I’m speaking of eventually.
Also, read Dewey and Mann as I currently am. Read about the origins of the public school system in the states. Its unsettling to say the least and you sure as fuck won't learn about it at your local highschool.
Another good book – "No Contest" by Kahn.
SHAUN: All you really did was state your opinions but I'd be very interested in knowing why you feel that way. I do believe that the public school system is not as good as it used to be but for the most part I think public education is working well.
DADDIO: Fair enough. But why do you think so? What are you measuring it against? What is a public school supposed to be? What should it be accomplishing for us? A 50% illiteracy rate. Dead last in standardized international science tests? A nation of sheep incapable of independent thought.
SHAUN: I believe that most, if not all, the problems with public schools are caused by parents.
DADDIO: I agree with you to the following extent:
1) Most parents are themselves products of the public school system and therefore tend to be somewhat dysfunctional and consequently often make lousy parents.
2) Because they are products of the public school system, they are plenty dumb enough to subject their poor kids to the same system, thus propegating the existence of the system with all of its inate problems.
SHAUN: For instance, the only reason, I believe, that violence and drugs are so rampant in our schools is because parents are not raising thier children right anymore.
DADDIO: Not raising them RIGHT? Their not really raising them AT ALL, are they? Aren’t their kids in school all day for most of the year? Seems to me like the schools are the ones doing most of the "raising".
SHAUN: Not all parents, I think most raise thier kids right. But today, more than ever, parents are not spending enough time with thier kids,
DADDIO: That’s correct, very good. Now you’re catching on. Kids should be with people that know and love them, not with complete strangers that can afford almost no undivided attention for them. High five me dude.
SHAUN: they don't teach thier kids right from wrong, they don't teach thier kids to love and respect the Lord and other people, they don't disipline thier kids when they do something wrong etc...
DADDIO: That’s correct. The government is extorting billions of dollars out them so that the public education system can do these things FOR them. They should do their damned job or give the parents their damned money back.
SHAUN: And then they go and blame the school or the government when thier kid fails school or whatever.
DADDIO: BINGO! You understand everything I’m saying! Great!
SHAUN: Like it's the schools fault the poor kid grew up never knowing his own father
DADDIO: The public school MUST share SOME of the blame for broken families, especially in places where home school is not available, unaffordable, or unacredited and where attendance at an acredited school is mandatory (which I believe is EVERYWHERE). What else is a parent in such a situation supposed to do? Attend school with the child? Keep their kid at home and go to jail for their kids truancy?
SHAUN: ….or growing up in a household where they were abused, never taught responsibility and so on. The fault lies with the parents.
DADDIO: The parents? You mean the public school graduates that are trying to immitate parents.
SHAUN: 9 times out of 10 when somebody really screws up thier life and ends up on drugs or in jail, it's because the parents weren't really good parents at all.
DADDIO: Right again. And their first mistake was sending their kids to a public school. I’m glad we’re seeing eye to eye on this.
