Lark, lifestyle choice or otherwise, homosexuality exists. It exists in many, many species, perhaps not so much as an overtly defined personality type, but as a practice. Some animals engage in homosexual activities. Some (many) of these animals engage in both homosexual and heterosexual activities. Perhaps if our society and culture were more openly accepting of this fact then the extravagent displays you find so offensive would not be so prevalent, and you could find it a little easier to urinate in public toilets.Isn't it a little odd that you are so aware of the overt displays of heterosexuality (those weirdos, as you called them), but are less conscious of the fact that media and advertising bombard us with messages which tell us being heterosexual is the only socially acceptable way to be? Ever seen a strong gay hero in a prime time tv show or movie? Name one character on TV you can think of who was openly gay and that was not an issue (comedic or otherwise) in every episode. Why are heterosexuals always multifaceted people while homosexuals are always homosexuals first and foremost? Reminds me of the way strong black characters were always found in movies with race as a theme or issue. Not so common today. Many strong black characters make it through a whole movie or show without it being an issue that they're black. It's (gasp!) almost normal now for there to be black people! Will that ever come about with respect to homosexuality? Take a look at advertizing: any gay men in ads not geared specifically for a gay audience? No. Do gay men buy soap and cars and bread and vegetables and cookies and books? Yes. So if sex sells all of the above, why is it only heterosexual sex that sells the above?
Again, Lark, get over the "deviant" label. Homosexuality is not deviant, unless many, many other cultures and species past and present are also deviant. Why is it deviant? Because they're (arguably) a minority on this planet? By that token, being white is deviant. Because they're no procreating? Why then, so are abstinence, masturbation, condoms, the pill, sponges, etc... Tell me why it's a deviant behaviour... please.
