Day 273 - 03 Jul 96 - Page 08

       A. The only ends that people in London Greenpeace, I
would say, were shared by all of the people were that they
were against the exploitation of human beings, animals and
nature, the environment. Now, as to what means people
chose to do, it was left up to them, and not everyone in
the group participated in the anti-McDonald's campaign.

  Q. You were a loner, were you, in your hostility towards
       McDonald's?
       A. I have never said that I was a loner in my hostility.
All I have said was that I run the campaign. There was
some people in the group enthusiastic about it. There were
others who were not. Mr. Morris was not. Dave was not.

  Q. You confirmed this yesterday. Mr. Morris's position was
that it was rather bad luck on McDonald's, they were the
targets simply because they were symbolic of everything
that he detested and despised. That is right, is it not?
We saw that in one of the agent's notes yesterday?
       A. I do not remember those words.

  Q. No, no, I am paraphrasing.

MR. MORRIS: Can I just say that I do not object to Mr. Rampton
asking questions which he himself said he would object to
when we asked them, which was asking a witness about other
people's motivation who are quite capable of speaking for
themselves, but I am not actually formally objecting
because I think the witness can deal with it anyway.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, Mr. Rampton is perfectly entitled to ask
the witness, suggest to the witness that your motivation
was this or that. The witness can agree, disagree or say
       he does not know.

MR. MORRIS: It is just that Mr. Rampton --

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is perfectly entitled to ask the
       question.

MR. MORRIS: When I asked, I think it was, Allan Claire about
our motivation about something, it was ruled out of order.
       I do not really mind.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The situation is that Mr. Gravett has written
a number of documents which give a key to his motivation,
on the face of them give a key to London Greenpeace's
motivation, and therefore it seems but a short step and a
perfectly legitimate one to ask whether that would include
your motivation. I cannot see anything wrong with that
question at all. It is entirely up to Mr. Gravett what
answer he gives to the question, but the question is a
       legitimate one.

MR. RAMPTON: Now, can we look, Mr. Gravett, please, at the
       fourth paragraph which begins:

"We are aware since our fact sheet was first published
       some four years ago".
