Day 255 - 23 May 96 - Page 18

       A. No, but it is written on the top: "Sid Nicholson
please handle this PSP" (that is Paul Preston), so I would
have most certainly done something about it.

  Q. You would have asked the solicitors to write a letter?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you remember?
       A. Probably. I cannot remember, my Lord, but I do not
think I would write myself. I would get Barlows to write.

MR. MORRIS: There is no letter enclosed in that file?
       A. No.

  Q. You do not know if a letter was written or not?
       A. I do not know, I cannot remember now.

MS. STEEL: Tab 11, I will not ask you to look through the whole
of it, but it is about Chrissie Hynde. Action was taken
       action her; is that correct?
       A. We certainly wrote to her. I do not know if there was
anything else in it than that.

  Q. Was that for libel or was that some kind of other ----
       A. No. I think this was when she is alleged to have
encouraged people to go out and bomb McDonald's or
something to that effect. I cannot remember the details
       now.

  Q. You do not recollect that being an action for libel?
       A. I do not think we started an action for libel against
       her.

  Q. A letter about libel?
       A. It might have been a letter, I do not know, I cannot
remember. We certainly wrote to her.

  Q. But you do not remember whether it was about incitement or
whether it was about alleged libel?
       A. No, I cannot remember.

  Q. Spitting Image, this in tab 12?
       A. Yes?

  Q. The letter from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert to Spitting Image on
       20th July 1989?
       A. I cannot remember this one.

  Q. You do not remember it at all?
       A. No.

  Q. It says:

"On Sunday, 2nd July Spitting Image closed with the song
sung by a Louis Armstrong puppet. The song contains the
following passage: 'The smell of burnt out forests cut down
so easily to further meat production for Mcburgers
industry', and it says the rest of the song and back
projections which appeared on the screen visibly displayed
many ecological environmental and human disasters."
