2 MR. MORRIS: Do you remember the "Ronald and the Nutrients" ads
3 that ran in December 1973?
4 A. I do not recall those ads. They may have run, if you
5 say they ran; I just do not recall them.

7 Q. You remember that there are Ronald and the Nutrients ads,
8 do you, by McDonald's? Nutrients is some kind of rock
9 group.

11 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is a rock group with Ronald in the lead
12 and the -----

14 THE WITNESS: Vaguely -- vaguely, perhaps.

16 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It may not be rock but it is a popular music
17 band.
18 A. You see, if it was an ad that was run with Ronald, it
19 was primarily shown on children's television which would be
20 Saturday, basically Saturday morning, and I do not recall
21 watching Saturday morning television. I know I had a
22 chance to review the reels of advertising during those
23 years, but we have produced thousands, I mean literally
24 thousands, of ads ---

26 MR. MORRIS: Do you remember ----
27 A. -- over the last 27 years, so I do not specifically
28 remember the one you are talking about.

30 Q. Do you remember there was an ad shown, Ronald and the
31 Nutrients, whatever the particular text was, but the actual
32 ad was abandoned after only a month of being shown, after a
33 new Federal labelling law was scheduled to take effect in
34 January 1974, which said that companies could not advertise
35 specific nutritional values without putting accurate labels
36 of ingredients and contents on their food items?

38 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you remember anything about any such
39 thing?
40 A. I do not recall. I do not recall that.

42 MR. MORRIS: But do you recall there was legislation in the 70s
43 about limiting the nutritional advertising that companies
44 could do unless they accurately labelled the ingredients of
45 their food?
46 A. Yes, I do not know all the specifics, but I do recall
47 that that was a matter of debate.

49 Q. When did you go to Hamburger University, or its equivalent,
50 before it was named Hamburger University? You said
51 yesterday, but I just cannot remember now.
52 A. Well, I attended HU, Hamburger University, a number of
53 times, twice during the 60s, once during the 70s and again
54 in the 80s.

56 Q. When did you go in the 70s? Do you remember?
57 A. 1976, 77, somewhere.

60 A. That is correct.
