       catching at Sun Valley?
       A. I do not believe it does. I believe it reflects a
certain uncaring attitude, and the whole importance about
bird welfare is that it does depend so much on the
individuals doing a particular job, whether they are on the
farm, whether they are catching -- whatever they are doing,
the care of the animals really comes down to the
       individual.

  Q. You may, I suppose, sometimes get an individual who is
either clumsy or callous or both, may you not, in carrying
       out this work?
       A. I think this is possible.

  Q. Is that something that Sun Valley has an attitude about?
Does it mind about that or does it think it does not
       matter?
       A. We are very concerned with anybody who might have that
attitude, and it is certainly actively discouraged.

  Q. Finally, he says or is reported as saying in the last
paragraph of his note: "Over the last three years a lot of
old sheds have been replaced with new sheds and new
equipment". As a literal statement of fact, is that
       correct or not?
       A. Yes, this is correct.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you, Dr. Pattison.

            Cross-Examined by the Defendants, continued.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Shall we have our break there before you
       start cross-examination?

  MS. STEEL: Yes.

                      (Short Adjournment)

MS. STEEL: How many of Sun Valley farms have earth floors?
       A. I am afraid I cannot really be sure, but it would
probably be about 20 per cent.

  Q. Is that something that has changed over the last five
       years?
       A. They are gradually being replaced with houses with
       concrete floors.

  Q. So about five years ago what percentage would have been
       earth floors?
       A. Probably about 40 per cent.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you say "those floors" what do you
       mean?

MS. STEEL: Some of the floors are concrete and some are earth,
       yes, is that correct?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, but what does the 20 per cent refer to?
       A. The 20 per cent was what I reckoned was the number of
