Day 055 - 25 Nov 94 - Page 45

MR. MORRIS: So, broadly, are many of your concerns that you
have raised about advertising to children similar or
       different when it concerns adults?
       A. I think some of them are the same and some of them are
different. Do you want me to elaborate?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. I am not going to encourage you to do
       that.

MR. MORRIS: I think you have alluded -----
       A. Very, very briefly then, the nutrition concerns are
similar. It is not only children's diets that are
important. Whilst special emphasis is placed on them, good
nutrition is also important for adults. It is different,
in that, I think, quite different techniques and strategies
are used in marketing to adults than to children, and
whilst it can be said that adults may be more fully aware
of the purpose of advertising, the similarities are that we
are all, whether adults or children, likely to be
       influenced by advertising.

MR. MORRIS: Thank you very much.

                    Cross-examined by MR. RAMPTON

  Q. Miss Dibb, will you forgive an old man if I do not always
       remember to say "Ms"?
       A. I do not mind.

  Q. I know I am not allowed to ask whether you are married, but
can I ask whether you have any children?
       A. I am married, and I do not have any children.

  Q. Can I ask you little more bit, please, if I may, about your
qualifications? Did you do a First degree at a university?
       A. It was a polytechnic, and it is now a university.

  Q. That is why I did not use the word "polytechnic".
       A. It was a polytechnic whilst I was there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is not concerned about whether it is a
       polytechnic or not.

MR. RAMPTON: They are all of equal status now, and I am not
going to ask about the value of degrees awarded by what
were formerly polytechnics. I am a bit deaf and sometimes
       I mumble, so if I cannot hear you, do you mind if I say;
and if you cannot hear me, please say so. What was your
degree or diploma, whatever it is; what was it in?
       A. It was a BSc Honours degree, primarily in Biology.

  Q. Biology?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You mentioned, I think yesterday, that you had done some
       kind of examination in marketing?
       A. Yes, I have taken various courses with the Open
Business School which, as you may know, is a business wing
of the Open University -- a well-respected educational
establishment. I have completed the first part of an MBA
