Day 050 - 10 Nov 94 - Page 25

advertising, you said that adults were not as -- I cannot
remember the word now. You did not like the word
"impressionable", I do not think. But would it be fair to
say that adults were not as impressionable as children?
       A. Yes.

  Q. But they still respond to advertising; yes?
       A. Indeed.

  Q. So if a product is advertised both to parents and children,
that will have a -- I cannot think of a way of describing
it -- cumulative effect in terms of the relation between a
       parent and a child?
       A. It could, yes.

  Q. So when you say that parents are an important influence
over their children's food choices, you can also influence
       the parents' food choices?
       A. Oh, yes.

MR. MORRIS: Just a question about the Advertising Standards
Authority. I am trying to finish off the main points
       before lunch.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to have the five minute break
       now?

MR. MORRIS: I would prefer, if Mr. Rampton could give an
indication of how long he needs for re-examination, maybe
we could have this done by lunch?

MR. RAMPTON: At the moment, I have two questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: His re-examinations have not tended to be
       very long.

MR. MORRIS: Maybe we should just have a short break.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. Do you know anything more about
       Miss Dibb's position, or not?

MS. STEEL: We have not spoken to her, but we have a message
that she really is feeling quite shaken, and she would
rather not come to court until after she gets back. She is
       going abroad. I was right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Which date is she going abroad?

MS. STEEL: She is going in the middle of next week and will not
be back until the middle of the following week.

We feel that we do not want to call her when she is not
going to be able to put herself across as well as she might
be if she was not feeling -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. The only difficulty is that -- I have no
doubt she feels very shaken now. When you say "the middle
of next week", what do you mean by that?

MS. STEEL: I do not know, because I did not speak to her.
