And as for biotech, aren't those companies in the moral doghouse for trying to patent human genes ? If that's not exploitation, then what is ?

TD Doesn't your cushy IT job come with this attached ? If it's an expanding sector, all these benefits will be tagged on to make the package more attractive to potential employees.
