People are afraid of EVERYTHING. They don't think about what they do or say they just do it and rationlise it latter. Example: They will think that Y2K is going to afect them. Y2k WAS a computer "Trojan" Made for someone who hasn't updated there computer for about 20 Years it is a old virus that just does nothing. It wont do anything to anyone now. Walmart Will not take over the world and NO ONE would set up a seccessful Company just to shut it do to be mean. --
McSpotlight: Good grief. I'm afraid you have absolutely no idea about what the Y2K problem is.
Back in the 1960s, computer memory was expensive and hard to make; when it came to building operating systems and chips with real time clocks, there was a choice between building a two-digit clock (which would go 66, 67, 68, 69...etc) and a four-digit clock (1966, 1967, 1968, 1969...etc). The four-digit clock was more expensive in memory terms than the two digit clock, which led to conflicts between the accountants and the engineers; the accountants wanted the cheapest solution, where the engineers wanted the most advanced solution. The engineers pointed out back then that a two-digit clock would have problems with the year 2000 (since "00" could be 19"00" or 20"00" or 21"00"); they told this to their managers, who laughed at the idea that anyone would be using the same systems in 30 years' time.
Lo and behold, many integrated circuits still use 2 digit clocks, including things like the launch controls on the nuclear arsenal, so governments around the world have to spend huge amounts of money now fixing the problem because they ignored the engineers back then. No-one is entirely sure what's going to happen, but if we're lucky, we won't get nuked...
