I can remember the horor still. I went to McDonalds and the first thing I'd do is run to the playground. You had a choice back then of which character you could play on. It was always have the rocking fry guys or the giant hamburger guy dressed up like a cop that you could climb in or the caged in area filled with balls that the Hamburglar would welcome you to or the waving plasic Ronald that was garded by ropes (obviously a sign of authority) and of course the Big Grimace rocking cage. The cage part was in the shape of his pear-like body and on top was a plastic, smiling, purple head. The symbolism was horrible. You were forced to see kids screaming and rocking inside the heartless insides of Grimace's body, all the while Grimace was smiling at their easily munipulative minds. Even the word grimace means to give a dissatisfying look or frown. Why would you name something so big and harmless looking such a petrifying name unless their was some harsh cruel meaning behind it all? Grimace should definately be band from civilization.
