: : DC:*The parts assemblers in Malaysia and Indonesia often are women; for them, it is a way to escape from a predominantly patriarchal society. : *So Nike and Microsoft are actually paying for a third world feminist revolution. And here was me thinking that they had no social concience at all.
: The fact that these places employ women almost exclusively is a simptom of the sickness, not a cure.
: The idea that working in these factories is somehow an escape is quite bizarre. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself.
Doc: For telling the truth? You actually believe that this is being done deliberately? When Marx purports that capitalism begets the seeds of its own downfall, you do not admonish the poor fellow.
In any case, the point is that employment at Nike (and, more appropriately, NEC and CTX) is neither a sickness nor a social program, but a job (or, as Rand might say, "A is A, you silly fellow you"). As far as it is seen as a beneficial opportunity by the locals, it will remain a popular option.
You must still be puzzling at the connection between female employment in industrial sector during WW II and the subsequent rise of the feminist movement. Or am I in error to see an association between the two?
