: The 'rule of thumb' is the more authoritarian the more people seek to escape, the variables are how many people can escape and how many people like / hate the particular brand of authoritarianismGood point. Why do so many wish to enter the U.S.? Perhaps it has something to do with the Bill or Rights??? The Consitution??? I have to say that the U.S. has more regulation (laws, legislation, etc.) than some other countries. For example, the minimum drinking age of 21, speed limits on the interstate, seat belts, and gun control. Of course, they are aimed at protecting the people (in some cases, they defeat the purpose). However, unlike other countries, Saturday Night Live is legal!!! Bill Clinton has to put up with every Lewinsky joke because we are allowed to speak our mind! The U.S. is probably as far from authoritative as you can get!
And what could be more authoritative than socialism?? The government takes possession of everything you own! Basically, the people have nothing and the government has EVERYTHING!! And the government is supposed to be better at operating business than individuals? Let me ask you this: what can the government do that private enterprise can't do better? The answer is NOTHING! Government employees don't have the motivation to get the job done right like business people do. I'll use the budget as an example:
The government, as a corporation, would be practically worthless! The problems and inefficiencies could be fixed. However, politicians don't have to worry about botched attempts to balance the budget and pay down the debt. Maybe they'll be voted out, but the gov't will still be there. However, if you're a business owner and you can't balance your budget, you just kissed your business good-bye! Your more efficient competitors will take your business after you've gone bankrupt!
None.
