: For a wake up call try getting a hold of Jeremy Rifkin's "The End of Work".
: Extending Lark's point- automation will in the near future enable more production than it is possible to consume. The crises of over-production by a smaller and smaller workforce, combined with a growing number of lower paid jobs, seems a looming inevitability. We will be waking up to a nightmare.
On the other hand, we may be waking up to such efficiencies
in production that we only have to work a 15 hour week
to live comfortably.
Unskilled labor is on the way out tho. That will have a major
impact on auto workers, for example, as robotics takes over.
If you have the urge to turn Neo-Luddite here, sitting in
front of your computer :), think of what the mechanized
reaper did for food production.
None.
