: The 'dictatorship of the proletariat' was first used by Blanque I believe to explain the suspension of politics while immediate reform was made.

: The municipal ownership of property and direct(ish) democracy of the Paris Commune was enough of a dictatorship to satisfy Blanquists and enough of a 'stateless' (remeber strictly speaking that honest anarchists arent anti-state or anti-law or anti-rule they espouse libertarian laws and government through local committees) order to please the Proudhonists.

: Now I know NJ defends Cuban style dictatorship while at best all I can offer Cuba is (very, very) critical solidarity but the fact is that in some circumstances, like when the country has collapsed into a civil war, a 'dictatorship' is the best means of organisation until democracy or a super-democracy can be restored/established.

Piper: Well, Nikhil seems to think that socialism is incompatiable with dictatorship. That is blatantly false as far as i am concerned.

I agree that dictatorship is conceivably a necessary device in some circumstances.
