The 'dictatorship of the proletariat' was first used by Blanque I believe to explain the suspension of politics while immediate reform was made.The municipal ownership of property and direct(ish) democracy of the Paris Commune was enough of a dictatorship to satisfy Blanquists and enough of a 'stateless' (remeber strictly speaking that honest anarchists arent anti-state or anti-law or anti-rule they espouse libertarian laws and government through local committees) order to please the Proudhonists.
Now I know NJ defends Cuban style dictatorship while at best all I can offer Cuba is (very, very) critical solidarity but the fact is that in some circumstances, like when the country has collapsed into a civil war, a 'dictatorship' is the best means of organisation until democracy or a super-democracy can be restored/established.
I'd not have tried to assasinated Thomas Sankara but I wouldnt have been over joyed about the dictatorship either.
In the end democracy that doesnt involve much more than determining who's gonna rob you isnt up to much. The liberties, law and welfare that accompany it is though.
