: I'm disappointed with Gee's response. Gee, I thought you were a consistent libertarian, in favor of family life, civil society, the whole works.

Read my upcoming response to this post. I am in FAVOR of free movement of people. Is the Cuban government?

: As for Cuba not having free speech, please put this in context. Cuba is under hostile foreign threat,m with insecure borders; whenerevr we've faced even the slightest foreign threat, we've censored books with a vengeance. (1798, 1916, 1950). Today we continue to have free speech in a very symbolic, largely meaningless sense. Soemone once said "America has freedom of the press for anyone who can afford one." That's not even to mention what our client states like Grenada and South Korea do; they continue to censor books like the Communist Manifesto by the boatload.

That doesnt make it ok for Cuba, or any nation, to do so.

: The whole Elian issue is, I think, a bit silly, and doesn't deserve thsi much attention, but i really can't see a principled libertarian on the same side as the CANF thugs and the opportunistic Dan Burton.

Hello? I'm not? But I do think its worth viewing from all possible angles and not jumping on the 'knee jerk conclusion' bandwagon whihc condemns the mother and enshrines what the father has said (knowing this would have been vetted by the cuban government)
