I'm disappointed with Gee's response. Gee, I thought you were a consistent libertarian, in favor of family life, civil society, the whole works. Look at the company you're in now. Stealing kids from their families? Sending death threats to a bereaved father and a Floridian judge? Attempting to shut down Miami so that a family can be torn apart even further? I could add the bit about a six year old kid being dragged before Congress. But that's not Nazi-like, like the other things are; it's just hilarious. It reminds me of medieval Europe, where they used to put goats and pigs on trial for witchcraft and then burn them afterward.
As for Cuba not having free speech, please put this in context. Cuba is under hostile foreign threat,m with insecure borders; whenerevr we've faced even the slightest foreign threat, we've censored books with a vengeance. (1798, 1916, 1950). Today we continue to have free speech in a very symbolic, largely meaningless sense. Soemone once said "America has freedom of the press for anyone who can afford one." That's not even to mention what our client states like Grenada and South Korea do; they continue to censor books like the Communist Manifesto by the boatload.
The whole Elian issue is, I think, a bit silly, and doesn't deserve thsi much attention, but i really can't see a principled libertarian on the same side as the CANF thugs and the opportunistic Dan Burton.
Burton is, by the way, a flaming fascist whose mouthings about freedom and democracy are pure hypocrisy. If Dan Burton cares two cents about democracy, how come he supports murderous terrorists who are trying to overthrow the world's largest democracy by randomly targeting civilians?
