: A hand gun maybe easily concealable but so is a sawed-off shotgun. They can be cut down to fit underneath a coat.Sawed-off shotguns may be more concealable than a long gun, but they're not as concealable as hanguns, or as quick and armed (though scattering does make up for fewer shells), and frankly, you don't see too many criminals and citizens using them. Let's not talk about theoretics, let's talk about actual handgun violence in the United States versus countries that have gun control:
In 1996, handguns were used to murder 2 people in New Zealand, 15 in Japan, 30 in Great Britain, 106 in Canada, 213 in Germany and 9,390 in the United States. The difference between the U.S. and the rest of those countries? They have handgun control, and we don't.

Right now criminals (or their fronts) can buy guns in stores and shows and from private citizens; the more avenues of guns you cut off, the harder it is for the bad guys to get guns. I would remind you that it's not only criminals I'm concerned about. It's the pissed off guy in the car -- the fine upstanding citizen -- who shoots you because you're going to slow. It's the nervous woman who blasts you because you approach her asking for directions to the library. It's the kid who takes his daddy's gun and peers down the barrel to see what's inside, or takes it to school to show off. It's the father who shoots his son dead because the kid came home late and sneaked in rather than waking up his parents.
: If a kid looks down the barrel of his dads gun and blows his head off its the dads fault. Not the guns. the dad could have easily gotten a trigger lock or even just put the gun in a safe place or taught his kid about the gun and how it works to relieve the childs curiosity.
That sounds sensible, doesn't it? And yet people don't always do the sensible thing, do they? I suppose kids could and do kill themselves and their playmates with long guns, and so all guns should be locked up, but handguns are much more kid-friendly simply owing to their size.

Adults can score drugs too if they want, but many don't because of the penalties involved should they get caught, or because they respect the law. Outlawing hanguns and bullets makes it that much harder to get a gun.
