: : Sawed-off shotguns may be more concealable than a long gun, but they're not as concealable as hanguns, or as quick and armed (though scattering does make up for fewer shells), and frankly, you don't see too many criminals and citizens using them. Let's not talk about theoretics, let's talk about actual handgun violence in the United States versus countries that have gun control:: Actually u can get the same amount of shots in a shotgunas you can in a 45 caliber handgun. but most handguns do have more then a 45. That is not the issue though. The issue is if you ban handguns then people will have to find another weapon to kill people with. It will always be that way and people will turn to sawed off shoguns or a modification of a rifle. Then everyone will try and ban shotguns and then all guns which will not go over very well with the hunting population. I agree that handguns are designed to kill people and that is all that they do but some people actually use them wisely which is why i dont think there should be a ban on handguns completely. we have to make a way to distinguish which people should and which people shouldn't be able to get handguns and that is not going to be easy.
Banning handguns will eliminate an easily concealable weapon which is used to kill thousands annually. We need to do it.
: : Adults can score drugs too if they want, but many don't because of the penalties involved should they get caught, or because they respect the law. Outlawing hanguns and bullets makes it that much harder to get a gun.
: You must be living in a dream world. It might be different where you are but where i live not all adults obey the laws on drugs and kids dont obey them even more. As much as you might want to think it is way too easy for me or any of my friends to buy drugs even though we have very strict laws against drugs. People will always find a way to get around strict laws.
Hey kid, I lived in DC for 12 years and live outside it right now. That's not a dreamworld! I know anyone can get drugs or illegal weapons easily. What you don't realize, perhaps because you're a teenager and not an adult with a family, is that making something illegal definitely discourages a significant number of people who might otherwise indulge. A responsible mother or father (and they're out there in great numbers) won't risk jail and huge fines, and the ensuing damage this would cause to their families and livelihoods, by committing the crime of purchasing an illegal weapon. Of course people can find ways around any laws if they want to, but we should make it as difficult as possible, and thereby minimize the amount of people who obtain illegal firearms, and the number of firearms available to be purchased.
: : I'm sure all the decent people who lost control and killed somebody out of anger or misplaced fear also felt as you do.
: You dont know anything about me which is why you dont know that i am not a violent person. I may kill animals but i have never gotten into a fight. I know people that get into a fight almost once every two weeks. It is people like that who shouldn't get handguns. People like me who have self control and know right from wrong shouldn't be punished for what other people do.
I know that the woman from Virginia who shot and killed another woman a few months ago in a case of road rage, was widely described as a good mother and a decent person, and that she couldn't believe what she had done after it happened. She'll probably end up spending many years in jail, and the other woman's children have lost their mother forever. You're a human being, and therefore capable of making terrible mistakes. Handgun mistakes tend to be fatal.
None.
