Technically, "Hispanic" only applies to the residents of the island of Hispanola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic). Some people of Mexican, South-, and Cental American heritage disavaow this label. "Mestizo/Mestiza" would have been the more accurate term in this context. Consult your local MEChA chapter for details.
