how expensive is free?

What I would very much like to know your opinion about is a recent trend that is showing its head more and more throughout modern business: companies that offer (very valuable) products or services for free, in return for everything a consumer can tell that company about him or herself and often even more...Do you think there is something immoral going on here? Aren't the consumers that 'engage' in such a transaction, blinded by the free products they are getting? and therefore: Do companies take advantage of the vulnerable position low income consumers are in? sincerely, Ralf Deeben
