Sounds a little like coercion.

If the woman, by virtue of her poverty is made somewhat powerless to act rationally out of a kind of desperation--we might be inclined to say that even though she might have had a real choice in the matter, it didn't appear to her as if she did. If she feels forced she will behave as if forced, regardless of whether or not she really is.

There's hardly precedent, legal or otherwise for this expanded definition of coercion though. I think the idea deserves some exploration; but am not willing to utterly abandon my ideas about the strength of will over worldly pressure.
