: Too right. They're views aren't illegal yet, though I'm sure some proto fascist liberals would like them to be. They provide a voice, however unacceptable what they may say is, to a section of society which would otherwise have none. Me I hate it, I really believe that my country has gained enormously from all the immigration beginning with the Jews, the French, and the Irish and contining with the Kosovans, Algerians and whatever else. But I still think they must be allowed to say it. If the BNP is such a danger then why have they never won a single seat in parliament? They have less members than we have- the SPGB has long opposed the No-Platform policy.

Erm, no, you can be a moderate racist, who just doesn't like Black people, don't have to beat them up to be racist. I know a lot of racists, some are just confused, otehrs are idiots, none of them would attack anyone. but they are still racists, and they *know* its unnacceptable.

Try this way- the IRA at Inniskillen (sp?) said 'whoops, sorry, wrong targets' and were rightly derided. Britain says in kosova 'whooops, sorry, wrong targets', not a murmur. Some very mild mannered people will tolerate extremes of violence enacted by states.
but, I should return to your main point, racism is not an extremity of nationalism, you can have advocates of violence in most causes. remember- everyone is an extremist, everyone who has a view holds it extremely, and will be prepared to see people die for that view- extremist is just a word used to describe a small number of people who hold a strong and out-line view.
: The most racist white people I regularly meet are not skinheads, we don't seem to have that many in my part of South London, but rather little old ladies who see a society which has become more violent since they were young, and equate that with hte blacks and Asians they hear about shooting or knifing each other. Not that racism and violence are purely the preserve of whites oh no....
Exactly, and many more respectable people- often bound in with older ideas of national identity and empire...
