Why is this still happening?

It's almost unbelievable to me in this era of "freedom", that atrocities like this take place. If this were to have happened in a straight club, it would have made the headlines. Rather, it is placed on the back page of certain left-wing papers.

I shall pose the question again. Is there anyone who denies that homophobic violence takes place? This is not even a matter of equal rights at this point, it is a matter of personal safety. It's one thing being fired from a job because you're queer, but being a bombing victim?

What can be done? Why is this still happening? Why does it happen in the first place?

Any suggestions?
