Day 273 - 03 Jul 96 - Page 41
things the Plaintiffs have been left to do in their own
time do tend to get put on one side and take a long time to
be sorted out, and I think that they should treat this as a
matter of urgency.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No doubt they will, but there is no reason
why you should not go into the witness whether Mr. Bishop
has been recalled or not.

MS. STEEL: I am not asking for my evidence to be put off but,
as I see it, there is no reason why they cannot contact him
this week and have an answer within two days.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Maybe they will, Ms. Steel, but if they do
not I will hear him at any time before the middle of July
when the evidence is expected to have finished. It matters
not one jot whether he gives evidence this week, the
beginning of next week or on July 15th. It will not make
one bit of difference to the result of this case.

MR. MORRIS: Can I just say something about the -- I mean, I am
well behind everybody else in terms of the numbering of the
notes, which I am going to attempt to do, but I am aware
that there seem to be different numbering systems at work
even amongst everyone else, and I just wonder whether, is
there someone who is on top of the numbering system with
all the new--

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It seems to me Ms. Steel has got the
numbering pretty accurately. It does not have to be
absolutely spot on because if one is given page 205 and it
turns up page 203, the world will not stop spinning. What
I do not want you to do is to be addressing me this autumn
and not giving me any kind of page number at all, just a
series of--

MR. MORRIS: I will do something anyway.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest you do, and I am sure we can cope
with any discrepancy of a page or two. The only other
matter I want to ask about, because I am assuming that the
next active part of the trial is for Miss Lapport to be
called tomorrow morning.

MR. MORRIS: That is correct.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is what, if any, progress has been made on
Mrs. Brinley-Codd's list of documents which you were going
to comment on?

MS. STEEL: I do not know. No, we have not finished going
through them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am sorry?

MS. STEEL: We have not finished going through them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When are you going to do that?

MS. STEEL: Probably when we get some time to go through them.
