Day 273 - 03 Jul 96 - Page 13

MR. RAMPTON: No, I think your Lordship is probably -- your
Lordship's papers have got muddled.

MS. STEEL: I think that paragraph has not got a line between
it.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you, Ms. Steel. I do not know if your
Lordship agrees with me, but the first paragraph I take to
end "ready in time" --

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, then it is the second. I have read
that all as one paragraph for the reason Ms. Steel gave.
Anyway, I have found it now.

MR. RAMPTON: These paragraphs are not indented. Then it goes
on, Mr. Gravett:

"As a result, the date for the fayre appears as the 29th
of September instead of the 27th. It was decided that it
would be best to alter the leaflets by hand rather than
scrap them."

That is, in fact, exactly what happened, is it not, Mr.
Gravett?
A. Yes, because as a group they were always concerned not
to waste paper or anything. I mean, here were 10,000
leaflets, a lot of paper. We could have easily scrapped
them. We decided to alter them by hand.

Q. Do you remember watching that video of the 1990
demonstration on 16th October at East Finchley there were a
lot of shots of people sitting down with pens writing on
the leaflets and what they were doing was altering the
dates, was it not?
A. It could have been. I mean, it was not really
possible to tell accurately what they were doing.

Q. I am wondering whether your memory serves you. Is that
not, in fact, what they were doing?
A. Pardon?

Q. Is that not, in fact, what they were doing, from your
memory, never mind what you can see on the video?
A. I honestly do not remember it that clearly. I mean, I
do not remember seeing myself doing it in the film.

Q. It was actually a shot of Ms. Steel with a pen in her hand
writing on what appears to be the leaflets. Do you
remember that, in the video?
A. Well, I do not, actually, but I take your word for it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, whether or not it was any particular
leaflet, do you remember she had something on her knee and
appeared to be writing on it? Do you remember that bit?
If you don't, you don't.
A. I do not, actually. It is the first time I have ever
seen the film.

MR. RAMPTON: It is not meant to be a memory test, Mr. Gravett.
