Day 273 - 03 Jul 96 - Page 07

MR. RAMPTON: 60A, 'A' for Arthur. I hope, Mr. Gravett, you
have got a document headed 'anti-McDonald's campaign 1990'?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You do. I referred you to the first paragraph yesterday
for a different purpose. I would like you to look at the
second sentence of the first paragraph which reads:

"London Greenpeace, the libertarian ecological collective,
no relation to the much larger Greenpeace International, is
calling on all groups concerned with human and animal
exploitation and the survival of our world to protest
against the burger empire and death culture of Ronald
       McDonald."

That was a call made by the group, presumably in 1990, was
       it not?
       A. Yes. It was made by people participating in the
anti-McDonald's campaign and it was written by me and they
       were my words.

  Q. You said that it was written by you, but once again I have
to put it to you; you would not have heard a whisper of
protest from any other member of the group at the contents
       of this document, would you?
       A. Well, you know, I was left to deal with the
       anti-McDonald's side of the group.

  Q. Yes?
       A. And I wrote the leaflets.

  Q. Yes, you were delegated by the other members of the group
to carry on the principal part of the anti-McDonald's
campaign during 1990, were you not?
       A. I think "delegated" is too strong a word. There were
no delegates at London Greenpeace. There were no votes
taken at meetings. It was a very informal loose collection
       of people.

  Q. What is a "collective", in your terminology, Mr. Gravett?
       A. A collective?

  Q. Yes, you use the word in this document, the fourth line.
       What does it mean?
       A. I take it to mean a group of people where a group -- a
group where those involved are allowed to share, if they
       wish, in decision making.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep your voice up.
       A. Sorry. A group of people where they are allowed, if
they wish, to share in decision making. An open democratic
       organisation.

MR. RAMPTON: That is right. It is not much different from a
       cooperative, is it?
       A. I think it is.

  Q. You are all working together for the same ends, are you
       not?
