Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 15
the weekend after."

So, that was not on the same day. There was very little
graffiti, you note that; yes?
A. Yes.

Q. If you look at the letter -- you saw this letter, did you,
or this would be a routine letter?
A. Yes.

Q. It is signed?
A. I mean, it was -----

Q. If you look at the two pages on from that?
A. I have not got it. I have only got this.

Q. There should be one that is dated 19th September 1988.
(Handed) It is another letter from Terry Carroll, the
following year, about the International Day of Action, to
P. Nefkens in the Netherlands and C. Wormold MSE; and the
previous one had been to the senior marketing manager for
McDonald's System of Europe. But this one states: "They
hope they will continue throughout the weekend" -- this is
another Day of Action?
A. Yes.

Q. "This is a repeat of the action they took last year which
had only limited effect outside the UK, but which led to
several attacks on stores in England. Hydrofluoric acid
was used to etch store windows and others were subject to
demonstration and graffiti attacks."
A. Yes.

Q. It seems to have magnified greatly in the years passing.
Is Mr. Carroll prone to exaggeration like this, so far as
you can see?
A. No. I do not think he is exaggerating. He is just
reporting what he believes might take place.

Q. No. He said what happened last time?
A. Well, yes.

Q. Whereas it contradicts what he said in the one before. Was
there a movement around this time to try and exaggerate the
effects that protests were having in the UK?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I cannot find any of these letters behind
either Mr. Carroll's or Mr. Nicholson's -----

MR. RAMPTON: I will hand them up, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is, if someone gives me a
complete small bundle or the additional ones -- not now,
necessarily -- and I will put them behind Mr. Carroll.

MR. RAMPTON: We will sort it, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It need not be done now.
