Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 12

  Q. It was definitely in the afternoon, was it?
       A. Yes, yes.

  Q. So London Greenpeace must have had two pickets that day?
       A.  I do not know, but there was no picket in the morning;
       it was definitely the afternoon.

  Q. October 16th, 1987, was the day after the massive
hurricane. You do not remember that?
       A. I do not know, no.

  Q. You would have remembered that, would you not? If you had
been out on the picket on October 16th, you would have
remembered that there was all sorts of debris all over the
streets, that the place was pretty quiet because lots of
roads were -- or there were, alternatively, traffic jams --
because lots of roads were blocked by trees, the tubes were
not running properly, that everyone was talking about the
fact that there had been a massive -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you remember any of this?
       A. No, I cannot, my Lord, no.

MS. STEEL: That is because you do not remember the 1987
picket; you are thinking of something else?
       A. No, I remember the 1987 picket.

  Q. There was no picket on October 16th in 1987?
       A. I say there was.

  Q. But you cannot remember ---
       A. I was there.

  Q. -- you cannot remember all these extremely unusual things
about the day, about the fact that there had been this
       massive hurricane the night before?
       A. No. I remember the hurricane. I do not remember it
being the night before. I remember the hurricane. I do
not think East Finchley was all that damaged. There was
some debris in the street, I remember, but -----

  Q. You do not live in East Finchley, do you?
       A. No.

  Q. So you would have had to travel to work. Are you saying
that there was no damage where you were living or on the
       way, either?
       A. Oh, yes.

MS. STEEL: If we just hand up the latest documents that were
       disclosed on 14th May.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to come back to that bundle?

MS. STEEL: Yes, I will be, yes. (Pause)

MR. RAMPTON: I have both documents, I think. I do not know if
your Lordship has this. I hope so. I will pass one up,
just in case. It is a letter from Mr. Carroll to
Mr. Renlang dated 6th November, 1987.
