Day 255 - 23 May 96 - Page 17

  Q. So working conditions became of interest to the public at
the time of the Transnational ----
       A. We became concerned.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You mean of interest to you?
       A. Yes. We became concerned that these matters were being
drawn to public interest by these two articles.

MS. STEEL: Right. What about the other issues such as
nutrition, food poisoning, advertising and animal welfare?
       A. What about them?

  Q. When did they become of topical interest to the public?
       A. As your leaflet got a wider and wider distribution.

  Q. You were aware that Veggies were mass distributing the fact
sheets which you wrote them a letter about?
       A. No. I was aware that they had reproduced them. I do
not know how widespread it was.

  Q. Basically you would take action, some kind of action, over
anything even if it was only handed out once?
       A. It would depend upon the circumstances.

  Q. According to you, London Greenpeace had been distributing
this kind of information since 1984, so it must have all
been in masses of public concern?
       A. No, I was not terribly concerned.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said, "as it got a wider and wider
distribution" or words to that effect. You can ask him
when he thought that was, if you like.

MS. STEEL: I presume we are going on without a break this
morning. I do not know whether I ought to continue?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. We did not start until 20 past 11.

MS. STEEL: OK. If we go to tab 9. You remember taking action
       over Jungle Burger?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And you were involved with that?
       A. Yes.

  Q.   That was not something that stemmed from London Greenpeace;
       was it?
       A. I do not know.

  Q. So you have no evidence that it was connected with
       London Greenpeace?
       A. I have no evidence why they carried out their research
and why they made the film.

  Q. Right. If you turn to tab 10, do you remember taking
action against The Islington Community Housing? Do you
       remember taking action against them?
       A. I cannot remember it but obviously I did.

  Q. You do not remember it?
