Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 18

MR. RAMPTON: And just to the right -- sorry, the left of the
       plane tree.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we sort it, that looks like a plane tree
because of the distinctive bark, but I think what, in her
aside, Ms. Steel is saying is that there are plane trees
further up the road but the trunks are in shade and one
cannot see whether it is plane tree bark or not?
       A. I am not sure what they are, but that is the one I am
       referring to.

MR. RAMPTON: Sorry about that. I thought it was more obvious
than it was. That is the plane tree?
       A. That is right.

  Q. To the left of the plane tree, perhaps slightly nearer the
camera, is the rear half of the cow?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And one must assume, also, its front half?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Obscured by two people who are doing, sort of, tumbling or
       acrobatics; do you see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. There is a person in an orange tutu?
       A. Yes.

  Q. If you go to the left of the cow and the tumblers, there is
some sort of implement lying on the kerb; do you see that?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. And then beyond those?
       A. A group of people.

  Q. Club juggling equipment?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Using those points of reference, roughly speaking, where do
you recall seeing Ms. Steel standing handing out leaflets?
       A. I would say, roughly speaking, she was standing just
nearer the kerb than the young lad with the highly coloured
jumper on behind the cow's rear end. It is somewhere in
       that line there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have not identified which man you mean.
       A. Sorry, my Lord. In photograph 15 you can see the rear
end of the pantomime cow, and then just to the left there
is a group of four or five people and there is a young
fellow with a... It might be a banner... It is a very
decorated front, I cannot make it out.

  Q. Or is he holding something?
       A. Yes, he may be.

  Q. In dark blue jeans?
       A. That is right. I would say she was standing about 2 or
3 foot from the kerb and so that would put her in between
