Day 198 - 08 Dec 95 - Page 10

Q. You see 054/1, do you see that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Which one are you on now?

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. David Ashley, my Lord. I have now gone to the
adjustments audit report. I am sorry, I should have said
that.
A. I have got him.

MR. RAMPTON: He is seven down from the beginning of the
Spurgeon entries, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He appears at the top as well. That is what
threw me.

MR. RAMPTON: I am sorry, yes, he does. That is absolutely
right. His clock out time is missing at the top of the
page, my Lord. He is third down and it is inserted by
Mr. Brett in the new data at 11.10, which you see seven
down in the Spurgeon block. (To the witness) Mr. Coton,
seven, have you got him now?
A. Yes, I have got him.

Q. He actually clocked in at 6.30 in the morning, did he not?
A. According to this, yes.

Q. That when Sally Spurgeon comes to deal with him she clocks
him in, alters his clock in time to 8.30 in the morning, do
you see that?
A. Yes.

Q. It is a fairly blatant way of doing it, is it not, just
knock two hours off? It is not very subtle, is it?
A. No.

Q. Would you also agree -- if anybody disputes it, I will be
delighted to be told -- it is thoroughly systematic, is it
not?
A. It is, sorry?

Q. Systematic?
A. Oh, yes, sorry.

Q. This was done, was it not, with your knowledge and
authority?
A. With my knowledge and?

Q. Authority?
A. It was a practice that we had carried on for years,
yes. I have said that already.

Q. How often did this happen?
A. I would say -- it is hard to say -- not as a regular
thing day in day out, but to put how often it happens on
this system -- with the manual payroll, it was slightly
different because it was actually done once a week, but on
this system it is hard to say how often it was done.

Q. But it was done fairly frequently on the Husky, was it not?
