     1        A.  That is right.  John Atherton took over from then.

     3   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  That is right.  According to the printout
     4        Mr. Stanton finished as Area Supervisor.

     6   MR. RAMPTON:  Yes.  My Lord, what happened on 1st August 1987
     7        Mr. Coton became Manager.  Mr. Stanton became Senior
     8        Supervisor and moved to Wales or somewhere like that, and
     9        Mr. Davis became the Area Supervisor, all on the same day.
    10        My Lord, I have done a chart and I will produce it
    11        tomorrow.

    14        own to some extent, but Mr. Stanton then moved to another
    15        part of the country.

    17   MR. RAMPTON:  Yes, my Lord.  That was his evidence, he moved
    18        right away from the area.

         A.  No, Mark Davies took over from Frank Stanton.  John
    22        Atherton would have been Mark Davis' immediate Supervisor
    23        from then on.

    26        A.  It is confusing.

    28   Q.   The regional meetings of Managers for the Anglia region,
    29        I do not mean the Area Supervisors and their four stores
    30        but the whole Anglia region, you went to some of those
    31        meetings?
    32        A.  The ones I attended as a Manager would have been
    33        conducted by John Atherton.

    35   Q.   I understand that.  How many Managers would attend then?
    36        A.  You would have approximately 15, something like that,
    37        15 to 20 I should imagine.

    MR. JUSTICE BELL:  Were you using the word "Senior Supervisor"
    42        at that time or "Operations Manager"?
    43        A.  Operations Manager.  I have confused myself.

    45   Q.   I think the title changed at some stage or there was some
    46        change in the hierarchy, but in any event whatever the
    47        proper title Mr. Atherton was immediately above Mr. Davis?
    48        A.  That is correct, yes.

    50   MR. MORRIS:  Apart from the Manager and John Atherton at those 
    51        regional meetings, was there anybody else who came to those 
    52        meetings maybe from higher up? 
    53        A.  Very rarely.  They were usually within their groups,
    54        the meetings.  We might have someone come down on a
    55        specific point, but it was very rare for somebody else to
    56        be there.

    58   Q.   You have talked about regional targets being set and that
    59        the profit and loss and bottom line was an obsession.  Were
    60        those the main points of discussion at those meetings or
