Day 172 - 12 Oct 95 - Page 18

I was planning to do by Friday evening; and as soon as
I know the person, then I will fax Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Then I turn to what your Lordship asked me to do,
which is enumerate my objections to the Defendants' -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I want to do it statement by
       statement.

MR. RAMPTON: That is what I was going to do, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us ask Mr. Morris who he wants to read
       first, then.

MR. MORRIS: It is probably better to do it in order, so that we
       do not -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You want Karen Anstee, do you?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. There is Rosemary Lovatt first, and she is in
the first section, so we should probably do her first.

MR. RAMPTON: She can be done right away, because I have no
objection. There is hearsay in respect of this, but it is
       of no importance.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Right. Let me just find her.

MR. MORRIS: It is number 26 in section A.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. This is the statement of Rosemary
Lovatt dated 2nd December, 1993. You read it then,
       Mr. Morris.

MR. MORRIS: "I was employed by the Inner London Education
Authority (ILEA) from 1973 until it was abolished in 1990.
In April 1987 I was appointed Principal Child Employment
Officer, and held that post until it was merged with
       another post in October 1989.

"Between those dates a member of my staff made a routine
visit to McDonald's in Kensington High Street. Her report
stated that the Manager had assured her that the employment
regulations were being complied with, and gave her a copy
of an internal memo from the head office of McDonald's,
which indicated that further infringements of the
       regulations would not be tolerated.

"The Officer brought the copy of the memo with her report
to me, which I saw, read and retained in a file.

"On the abolition of ILEA, files concerning pupils were
passed to successor authorities, and files on employers
       were destroyed.

       "Rosemary Lovatt, 2nd December 1993."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Who do you want to read next?
