Day 172 - 12 Oct 95 - Page 14

MR. MORRIS: Can we have just ten minutes?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am going to take quarter of an hour,
because there is something which I have to do. So I will
come back at quarter to 12, or very soon after.

(Short Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: Can I just deal with some matters before we read
out the Civil Evidence Act?

MR. RAMPTON: It will be a very long time before we will be able
to do any reading of Civil Evidence Act statements, because
I first of all have to tell your Lordship what my
objections are, and I am afraid they are quite numerous.

MR. MORRIS: Can I deal with some other matters first?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You raise your other matters, and then I will
hear anything Mr. Rampton wants to say.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. I am just making a note. I am getting a bit
confused here. There are some documents to serve. There
is a computer printout -- not a printout, a disk -- which
was in the documents served. There was a letter served in
the last set of documents served, which you remember got
put into volume VII and under the environment number 1. It
was the very first document. It referred to a computer
disk. I will keep it in the envelope.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not necessarily need one at the moment.
Just tell me where -----

MR. MORRIS: It is the disk that is the actual document, you
see.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Take me to a document.

MR. MORRIS: It is environment number 1; it is the very first
document in that file. It should have "world conservation
monitoring centre". It referred to a disk, which is --
I have not got the document in front of me, but it is meant
to be the state of the art progress of deforestation in
Costa Rica. I think the disk runs -- if someone types
"run" the disk runs automatically until it is complete.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What does it have on it?

MR. MORRIS: It has a map of Costa Rica and some charts around
the outside of the map; and the forest cover of Costa Rica
is identified. The map changes as the years change. So
when it goes from 1950 to 1951, some of the forest cover
disappears, and that continues; and it is also projected
after 1990, but we are not so concerned with that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How many different displays would you get on
the VDU?

MR. MORRIS: I think, as it runs, you get about -- well, it goes
