Day 154 - 13 Jul 95 - Page 16

       A. I do not specifically remember it coming down that low,
       no.

  Q. What was the lowest you remember it getting to?
       A. Possibly 13, 14.

  Q. Was that the year that you were Store of the Year?
       A. I cannot honestly remember.

  Q. You do not remember.

MR. MORRIS: Did you ever get any disciplinary action or
pressure from above because of the labour percentage that
you had managed to achieve in the Colchester store?
       A. Pressure from above? Never, as far as I remember.

  Q. Pardon?
       A. Never.

  Q. Never, even when it went outside your range, as low as
       13 per cent?
       A. No.

  Q. No one rushed down and said: "That is an atrociously low
level of labour per cent outside of your range 14 to
17 per cent that you had before. You had better take some
immediate action to bring it up again"?
       A. They might have discussed, you know -- we would talk
about it, but certainly not in the manner that you are
       suggesting.

MS. STEEL: If you could get volume pink XII, please, and turn
       to tab 11, page 412?
       A. Yes.

  Q.   This is something that is used during the crew orientation;
       yes?
       A. At a quick glance at it, this could be something that
could be used at the crew orientation, yes.

  Q. It is the crew training programme, but this particular page
looks as though it is something that is read out during the
orientation, if you look at the page before.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I was going to say look at the page before.
They are in sequence, because that has "13" at the bottom,
and then we go on to the page Ms. Steel has taken you to,
which is 14. It starts: "Welcome to McDonald's", and it
is clearly someone in the store speaking?
       A. Yes. It looks like a guideline.

  Q. "The idea of orientation today", and it goes on?
       A. Yes, I have it; and it looks like a summary of how our
       crew orientation should be conducted.

MS. STEEL: Do you remember this crew training programme?
       A. There is a crew training programme in -- we have always
       had a crew training programme.

  Q. Do you remember this particular one? Do you think you have
