Day 154 - 13 Jul 95 - Page 09

  Q. These were the same people that had fought off the
skinheads when they were attacked; is that right?
       A. As I remember it, the four people were sort of hiding
in the back of the kitchen when the skinheads came in. So
it makes it even more ludicrous that they should think to
form some sort of freedom fighters when they were sort of
fairly cowardly, as I remember it.

  Q. So the Freedom Fighters were not formed from the attack by
       the skinheads?
       A. They were, yes, but that is what made it all the more
ludicrous from the fact that they did not actually take
part in any of the -- when the skinheads came in.

  Q. Do you remember what the walk-out was about?
       A. No.

  Q. Do you remember other walk-outs?
       A. No.

  Q. But there might have been some?
       A. I doubt it, to be honest with you.

  Q. How long do you recall this going on for?
       A. Two or three days, possibly a week.

  Q. When you said that the matter had gone too far and it
should stop or there would be trouble, that is trouble from
management; management would take some kind of action?
       A. Well, as I saw it, the manner in which they were
behaving was sort of almost to the -- they did not actually
sort of do anything that would deliberately require
disciplinary action taken, but it was more like a warning
that, you know: "If you continue to behave in this manner,
then it may constitute a breach of discipline." For
instance, I can think, sort of, of an instance, if you
       like.

  Q. This was after the walk-out? I am sorry, when I put it
before I put two sentences round the other way. But the
matter of going too far or there would be trouble was after
your recollection that a couple of them had walked out on a
shift after a disagreement with the shift running manager?
       A. Sorry, could you say that again? I missed the flow
       there.

  Q. Do you want to look at your statement? It might be
       easier.
       A. Yes.

  Q. It is volume yellow X.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, in fact, Mr. Davis was in the middle of
giving an example of the kind of behaviour when he was
       interrupted.

MS. STEEL: Sorry, I did not intend to do that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I know. We will give Mr. Davis an
opportunity to come back to that in a moment.
