Day 153 - 12 Jul 95 - Page 10

middle of an eight hour shift, it makes no difference
whether they get 45 minutes or 35. I can assess that for
       myself.

MR. MORRIS: If we come to that, I would say let them have an
hour or hour and a quarter.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You can argue it in due course.

MR. MORRIS: I certainly used to get longer for my breaks if
       I possibly could.

You said in point 7, you said that the allegation about
under-18s working past 10.00 p.m. or midnight, that it
       never happened to your knowledge.

"I cannot be certain that it did not happen when other
managers were running the closing shift."

Do you agree with that? Do you agree with what you wrote
       in your statement?
       A. I agree with that, yes.

  Q. In point 8, about the taxi fares, which company did you
have an arrangement with for taxis?
       A. What was the company name?

  Q. Yes.
       A. I cannot remember. It may have been Five Star, but
I cannot -- it may not have been, as well.

  Q. It was paid out of petty cash, you say. You also said,
I think -- or Mr. Stanton said -- that it would be noted
down on some sheet that it was a cost?
       A. Certainly, yes.

  Q. What sheet was that on, do you know?
       A. On the petty cash claim form, and then it would also be
noted in the Sales and Ops log as a charge against the
       travel account, as "taxis".

  Q. Travel account?
       A. Yes.

  Q. That was what, every week, you had it totted up and you
paid it to this company, or whatever company it was?
       A. What would happen is, the invoice came in, we would pay
       them out of the -----

  Q. Weekly?
       A. On a weekly basis, yes. We would pay them out of the
petty cash. The invoice would then go, when we put the
petty cash claim form in, that would then go to Head Office
and we would record it in the Sales and Ops log, and they
would generate the petty cash through on to our accounts
       for the restaurant.

  Q. Sorry, I did not quite understand that. How did Head
       Office get involved in this?
       A. Well, petty cash -- paid petty cash out of the petty
