Day 152 - 11 Jul 95 - Page 02

                                Tuesday, 11th July 1995.

              FRANCIS ANTHONY JOHN STANTON, recalled.
            Cross-Examined by the Defendants, continued.

MR. ATKINSON: Mr. Davies will be ready for 12 o'clock and
Mr. Rampton will be here around that time.

MS. STEEL: I wanted to go on to the schedule that I have drawn
       up.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: I think there is a slight problem.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I see, the schedule you did of staffing
       levels?

  MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I do not know whether it was put back
in the yellow -- you have it there.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness) You took one away with you last
       night, did you?
       A. I did.

  Q. Was there anything you wanted to do that you felt was way
out and you wanted to correct?
       A. I think, as I said yesterday, I would look at the
numbers of crew scheduled on the Friday, 12.00 till 2.00.
I think I said yesterday that 14 would be more appropriate.

  Q. Yes.
       A. I think that on the Saturday, 2.00 till 3.00, that we
would probably have -- continue the 25 through to there.

  Q. You did say that it tapered off after 2 o'clock?
       A. Certainly, but having a look at it and going back on my
experience probably 12.00 till 3.00 we would keep about 25,
and then probably go down to 20, 3.00 to 4.00, to keep it
even rather than have a significant drop there.

I think Sunday I would look 1.00 till 2.00 probably to make
it 10 rather than six; then 12.00 till to 1.00, eight
rather than six, just to give a gradual build up rather
than go from 6.00 to 12.00. But, overall, the numbers over
lunch time and those evening periods look pretty good to me
       for the Leicester store.

  Q. I think we have heard in the case so far that above 35
hours a week or 35 and above is considered full-time; is
that correct from your point of view?
       A. Well, my experience is generally that people in terms
of being available full-time are usually available up to
       39.

  Q. Up to 39?
       A. Yes.
