until you have got them in what you think is an acceptable
       form.

MR. MORRIS: That is part of the problem, is the time it takes.
Luckily, that one last night came in -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Press on with your cross-examination. If
your estimate of by Thursday alters in any way, let me
know. I have checked through over the weekend what
Mr. Stein dealt with in-chief. I have checked with how far
your cross-examination has got and certainly we must finish
Mr. Stein so that he can go home by the end of this week.
If you can beat that by a day or two or even three, so much
       the better.

                MR. STANLEY RICHARD STEIN, recalled.
            Cross-Examined by the Defendants, Continued.

MR. MORRIS: Would you like to get the abstract of the
pleadings? It is a white file. I think it is the only
white file. it has a white spine on it. If you go to page
       4 -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is tab 7, divider 7, first of all.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, yes, divider 7, and page 4 of that.
       A. Yes, I have it.

  Q. Do you want to read paragraph 11? I will read it out:
"Beijing, China, 1993. In or around 1993, workers at the
Beijing store expressed grievances over low pay, reduced
hours, lack of 'perks' and unsuitable clothing. They
produced leaflets and a representative, Mr. Tung, appeared
on TV appealing for support." What do you know about a
situation in Beijing at that time?
       A. I have some general knowledge about it. I was not
there. So, I do not have first hand knowledge but I have
       general knowledge.

  Q. What do you remember the grievances were?
       A. First, I do not recall there being grievances.

  Q. Sorry, you were going to expand on that?
       A. You asked me a question. I answered the question.

  Q. You remember something happening. What do you remember
       happening?
       A. OK. I remember that there was one individual who had
put some leaflets in some of the employees' lockers,
I believe, or near the lockers.

  Q. Sorry, leaflets about what?
       A. I just recall that it was -- what I recall is it was
more of a politically orientated kind of thing. There were
some statements about western companies and some specifics
on there, but I really do not recall the detail because
I never saw the leaflet. It was in Chinese -- Mandarin,
I guess -- so I really do not know what it said.

  Q. Did it mention or were you informed that it mentioned
