6 MR. MORRIS: I want to come on to Madrid. I am trying to find
7 the references.

9 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was subparagraph (3) in Mr. Stein's
10 statement and item 37 in your pleading.

12 MR. MORRIS: 37?

14 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, B37.

16 MR. MORRIS: Thank you. (To the witness) You mentioned in your
17 statement, Mr. Stein, that the four employees in Spain that
18 were sacked in Madrid, in I think it was either 1986 or
19 1987, that were later reinstated by the order of the Labour
20 Board, had distributed leaflets in the store. Did you see
21 those leaflets?
22 A. No, I did not.

24 Q. They were leaflets requesting an election be held?
25 A. That was my understanding.

27 Q. The Labour Court found that dismissal had been unfair and
28 ordered the employees be reinstated?
29 A. At a point in time in there, yes.

31 Q. You went to Madrid at that time, during that controversy;
32 yes?
33 A. Yes, I did.

35 Q. How long were you in Madrid for?
36 A. Probably -- I want to say two or three days.

38 Q. At what stage were you in Madrid -- of this dispute?
39 A. At what stage?

41 Q. Yes.
42 A. It was at the time that the four had been sacked, as
43 you described, and I was there at that point in time, after
44 they had been sacked.

46 MR. JUSTICE BELL: But was it before the Labour Court had made
47 its decision or not, or after?
48 A. When I landed, it had been made; when I took off, he
49 did not have it -- when I took off by aeroplane from the
50 United States.

52 Q. So you set off before it was made?
53 A. Yes.

55 Q. But it had been made by the time you got there?
56 A. That is correct.
