  Q. Do you remember a course that was labelled "Personnel 1"?
       A. Not specifically.

  Q. Not specifically. Do you remember there was a course that
       was labelled "Personnel 1"?
       A. If you say so. There were courses that dealt with
personnel issues. Specifically, do I remember it called
"Personnel 1"? No, I do not, but there were a number of
courses that were taught over the years that dealt with
       personnel or human relations issues.

  Q. Do you remember Dr. Leroy G. Kougill, PhD, who was
Professor of Business Management at the University of
Winsconsin, and also involved in Hamburger University?
       A. He was an outside consultant that we retained that, as
I recall, helped us with our course curricula.

  Q. Was he one of the architects, if you like, of the Personnel
Management courses at the University, specifically the
       Personnel?
       A. I would not think so. He, perhaps, assisted in the
development of the presentations or the format that was
used at HU, but the actual material would have come from
our Personnel Department at the time with some help from
       our Training Department.

  Q. McDonald's use a management technique called "strokes", do
they not? They teach a system of "strokes" at their
       universities, their Hamburger University?
       A. I think it would help me a little bit if you add a
little more texture to what you mean by -----

  Q. We have seen a video of a Hamburger University lecture on
       the use of strokes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: People might say to other people working for
McDonald's, who might either have, what I think you might
describe as, a positive or negative or purely neutral
effect with regard to the other person or people, when you
say it. Do you remember terminology of that kind being
       used?
       A. That is helpful, my Lord, yes. There were -- I guess
we introduced psychology, a bit of psychology, in some of
our personnel or human relations courses, where we
attempted to help our managers and personnel that went
through the programme to better communicate with people
that they would manage or supervise, help them motivate and
train the people that they were responsible for.

MR. MORRIS: Was that something you remember that Dr. Kougill
introduced or advised, brought in to the courses?
       A. I cannot say that I would be, I know that answer, no.
I did not get involved in the development of the curricula
       at HU. I did -----

  Q. I thought it might be something you were told when you
       there?
       A. I did give comments, as a member of management. I did
give comments about the content and the quality of
