Day 120 - 03 May 95 - Page 22
you: Liverpool were playing away, they won and the noise
in that town that night was absolutely deafening.

Q. Liverpool were playing at home?
A. Away, yes, because it was in a big match because the
train station was right next door to my hotel.

Q. If they were playing Tottenham, I might know the dates!

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not pursue it too far. I would be very
surprised if Liverpool did not play away on every Grand
National day because otherwise they are wasting a large
part of their own crowd.
A. Yes, I would have thought so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It will not cut it down much.

MR. MORRIS: They used to win quite a lot around those times.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They would much rather play at home on
non-Grand National days. What are you going on to next? Is
there anything more to ask about Liverpool?

MR. MORRIS: I do not believe so. No. Might that be a good
time to have our break?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

(Short adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: You said that the issue of unions may have come up
in other local areas or in stores but you would not know
about it?
A. No.

Q. So, around this time it may have been, for all you know,
quite a widespread concern?
A. I would find that hard to believe. I would have
thought I would have got to know about it if it had been a
widespread concern -- I did not.

MS. STEEL: In actual fact, you said the reason you went to
Liverpool was because you took the telephone call?
A. Yes, I was -- I spoke to the store Manager who asked me
to come up.

Q. You said that Carmel and Joanna would probably have gone if
they had taken the call, that is, Carmel Flatley and Joanna
Blackett?
A. I think I meant that in relation to any of the
incidents.

Q. Yes?
A. Yes.

Q. So, for all you know, they may have gone to other such
meetings where they took the phone calls?
A. No, I think I would have known if Joanna or Carmel had
attended.
