Day 118 - 01 May 95 - Page 08

       A. Yes, the information department.

  Q. Who is that, another witness?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, the witness is Mr. Mead in this country.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Say anything you know about it.
       A. I do not know any of the technicalities, I just take
the figures as they are produced to me.

MS. STEEL: So do you know how the crew turnover is calculated
       or not?
       A. Not really. I mean, it comes off the computer. I take
the figures as they come off the computer.

MR. MORRIS: The thing is, what does 115 per cent mean? What
does it mean, in reality, when you say 115 per cent?
       A. It means there has been a 115 turnover in crew for that
       year.

  Q. Yes, but I mean you have said yourself a lot of people only
work at McDonald's for a few weeks or in between times ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- you say, or your company says. So does that mean that
some people are staying 15 years and 10 times as many
people are staying five or six weeks, and that is averaged
out as 115 per cent? Do you how it is calculated?
       A. No, I just take the figures as they are produced to
me. Lyn Mead would be able to tell you how the calculation
is done. She gets involved in it, but I just take the
figure as it is presented to me.

  Q. So you cannot give any evidence as to what it means to say
       115 per cent?
       A. Other than it indicates to me that our turnover for the
year was 115 per cent at the end of the year.

  Q. Because that is what you have been told?
       A. Because that is what I have been told.

  Q. In December 1989 it was 191 per cent, is that correct?
       A. I am not sure. I cannot remember. As I said,
I thought the highest figure was 182, but it may be 191.
       I just simply cannot remember.

  Q. Can you just look at tab 40 in pink volume XII, please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Page 699?
       A. Yes.

  Q.   These are McDonald's figures and it says:  "Country:  UK";
       is that correct?
       A. Yes.

  Q. For December 1989, which would be a relevant time for this
       case ---
       A. Yes.
