MS. STEEL: Perhaps would it be possible to have until 2 o'clock
and have -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long do you need with Mr. Bruton? You
have obviously spoken to him on the telephone and you wrote
out the one page which I have. How long do you actually
need with him?

MS. STEEL: The thing is there is a fair bit to go through and
given that we have to have lunch as well.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I know. I am just concerned with whether an
hour-and-a-half is required. How long do you think he will
be giving his evidence-in-chief?

MS. STEEL: An hour, I do not really know. The thing is it may
take less if I do manage to go through and get more of a
grip on it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I will do is I will break off now
until, it seems to me, quarter to 2 should be reasonable
because you have half-an-hour then and then about
three-quarters of an hour to get something to eat. If
Mr. Good comes up at quarter to 2 and you need another five
minutes, I am not going to be restrictive about that.
However, what concerns me is that it is in everyone's
interest we should try to finish Mr. Bruton today. If we
do not, then Mr. Bruton will have to come back tomorrow
morning and everyone else will too. So, without putting
anyone under undue pressure, that is what I would like to
aim at.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, we are prepared to skate over some things a
bit if it means we can finish today.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will say I will come back at quarter to 2.
If you need another few minutes after that, then I will
wait in my room until you are ready. But, do your very
best to be ready and have had some refreshment by quarter
to 2 and to take the evidence with an eye for what is
important. I mean, I can see what Mr. Bruton is covering
and, of course, I am most interested in such evidence as he
can give as to his own experiences.

MS. STEEL: Right.
